Why This Book?

Yes, we know there are a lot of web development books out there. Why should you read this one?

1. No experience necessary

This book will not assume that you have any previous knowledge in programming. You can start learning to make a dynamic website even if you have never done any programming and never touched HTML, CSS, PHP or MySQL before. We will learn them as we go along.

2. No jargons

We will refrain from using technical jargons as much as possible. You don't need to know what HTML stands for in order to create an HTML page. Same goes for CSS, PHP, AJAX and everything else. Giving you a lengthy explanation beforehand on Hypertext Markup Language or Cascading Style Sheet will not help you much in creating your first web page. Besides, if you want to know more about the technical aspects of it, you can always look them up on the internet.

3. We'll keep it simple

Learning programming does not have to be difficult. We will keep the lessons simple and easy to follow. Granted that by keeping things simple the programming method presented here may not be the most efficient. But we have to start somewhere. Once you know the basics you will be able to find your way to a better and more efficient way of programming. Let's focus on the basics for now.

4. A lot of examples

This book believes that the best way to learn is by looking at some working examples and read the explanation so that you understand how it works. Ultimately, our goal is for you to build your own web pages. You will be able to do this quicker if you learned from examples, to then tweak and reuse those examples to suit your own need. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

5. Examples are downloadable
Whenever you are presented with codes and examples, you will see something like this:

Run on Browser | Download

Click Run on Browser if you would like to see how it runs. Your Kindle will open its default browser and you can see how the codes work right away. Naturally your Kindle will need to connect to the internet in order to do this.

Click Download if you would like to download the file and run it on your own computer. It will come in a zipped format. Note that you cannot download the file to your handheld Kindle, so you will need a PC to do this.

6. Easy to navigate

This book is created specifically for Kindle and make use of what Kindle can do as much as possible. You will be able to navigate around the book easily. When one topic refers to other topics discussed previously, they will be linked so you can jump to those topics, refresh your memory and jump back to continue what you were reading. You can also run the examples right there using your Kindle default browser.

7. It's End to End

As we mentioned earlier, the ultimate goal is for you to create your own website. Therefore, this book will cover the whole process: From creating an HTML page, using CSS to style your page and applying PHP to make your page dynamic, to guiding you in publishing your website. By the end of this book you will be ready to publish your website for the whole world to see.
